Reminders

Dear Parents,

Just a couple of reminders for the week:

1. Our Christmas program is scheduled for Monday, December 15th, at
6:30 p.m. Mrs. Wayer would like the children to be here by 6:15 p.m.
and wear nice clothes. They have been working hard on singing and
playing instruments.

2. The children brought home a letter explaining the "Read To
Succeed" program sponsored by Six Flags. By completing 360 minutes of
reading time, your child can earn a ticket to Six Flags. The deadline
for turning in reading logs is the end of February.

3. Please be sure to sign your child's reading log in the back of
his/her reading folder when the children read for homework. This is
my way of checking to make sure homework has been completed. It also
helps your child earn points to spend at our reading store.

4. Anytime your child reads independently, you may add the story to
the reading log in his/her folder.

Reminders

Happy Monday! Just a few reminders about this week ....

On Wednesday, November 26th, Kindergarten will be singing a
Thanksgiving song during mass. Mass begins at 8:15 a.m. We will
sing after communion. You are welcome to come hear us sing.

School dismisses at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 26th. Extended
Care is NOT open after school.

School will not be in session on Thrusday, November 27th, or Friday,
November 28th.

School resumes on Monday, December 1st. It is a 2:00 dismissal day
and a FREE dress day for the children.

Pumpkin Patch

Dear Parents,

Weather permitting, Kindergarten and 1st grade will be making their
way to Breezy Hills Pumpkin Patch tomorrow morning. PLEASE be sure
to send $7.00 in the morning if you have not paid yet. I am missing
money from several students and it must be turned into the school
office before we depart for our trip.

ALL CHILDREN NEED TO BRING A LUNCH TO EAT ON OUR FIELD TRIP. We will
be having a picnic before we return to school.

There is not room for parents available on the bus. However, parents
are welcome to meet us here at school and follow the bus or meet us
there.

We are keeping our fingers crossed that the weather will cooperate.
However, we have other arrangements made if we have to cancel. I will
keep you posted on any changes.

Friday, October 24th

OLMC School has an 11:00 dismissal tomorrow (Oct. 24). Extended Care will be open,
but students need to bring a sack lunch if they plan to attend. Public schools
will also dismiss early, so the school bus schedule will run on an 11:00 dismissal
schedule. Make sure bus riders let us know in the morning if they are planning to
ride the bus.

Please note tomorrow's faculty in-service will be our annual emergency
preparedness training. Please do not be alarmed if you notice police cars at the
school after lunch. We are just learning how to better prepare our school in the
event of an emergency.

Lifetouch came to our school today to do picture re-takes and candid shots for the
yearbook. If your child had their picture taken and you did not send the order
form or payment to school, you may contact Lifetouch within 48 hours to place your
order and get free shipping. After 48 hours, you may still order but you will
have to pay shipping on the order. Please contact Lifetouch at (618) 288-7896
with questions.

Book order help

Hello! I was wondering if you could help me out with some
housekeeping business in Kindergarten? If you ordered books from our
very FIRST book order (September) and paid using a check, would you
please check to see if that check has cleared? I am almost certain
that I mailed this payment in September; however Scholastic says that
they have not recieved the payment. I am hoping that checks have
cleared and it was just not posted correctly. If you can help at all
with this situation, I would GREATLT appreciate it.

Field trip

Hello! This is just a reminder that we will be taking our first field trip on Thursday,
October 16th. We will be leaving school after lunch and traveling to Marion to see the
Jungle Book. Permission slips are no longer sent home. However, I want all parents to
be aware that we will be leaving the school premises by bus for the afternoon. If you do
not want your child to attend this trip, please let me know as soon as possible.

If your child is attending, please be sure to send $4. The cost will cover the ticket and
transportation.

Picture Retake Date Has Changed!

Please make note on your calendar that we have changed our Lifetouch Picture Retake
date. Originally the date was for Wednesday, October 15th. Due to 5th and 8th
grades being gone on a field trip that date, we have rescheduled our retake date to
Thursday, October 23rd.

Retakes will begin at approximately 9:00 A.M.

Please bring your complete picture package with you on retake day. The photographer
will collect them and use the information provided on the envelope to know which
package you ordered.

If you did not get pictures taken on our first picture day, order forms are
available in the school office. Payment must be included with your order, or you
may pay for your purchase online prior to retake day by following the instructions
on the order form. Be sure to write your payment code on the order form and give
the form to the photographer.

Purchase of a package is not necessary to have your picture taken for the yearbook.

Reminders

Hello! We will not be learning a new bible verse this week. Instead
we will be learning about Saint Francis of Assisi.

On Friday, Father Ken will be blessing pets. It will begin at 8:00
on the school parking lots. Animals must be properly restrained and
must go home immediately following the blessing.

afraid of any animals that may be visiting for the blessing.

And finally ... School will dismiss at 2:00 p.m. for the Herrin
Homecoming Parade. The main road through Herrin will be closed at

Children's Liturgy/Art Starts

Dear Parents:

We are in need of parents to help with Children's Liturgy on Sundays during 11 a.m. Mass
- this is where the children go out for about 20 minutes to hear the readings and do a
small activity. Michelle McVey has been doing this every Sunday, and we need to get her
some help. If we could get enough parents to do it even just once a month, or once
every six weeks, it would be greatly appreciated. Please give Michelle a call at 925-
0281 if you could help. She is going to make a schedule.

Also, classes for ArtStarts after school are all set to go, with the exception of
violin, which lacks enough interest at this point to pay the instructor. They need just
two more students to be able to have the class, so if your child is interested in
violin, please sign up this week. You may still sign up for other Fall classes as well.
ArtStarts forms are in the office.

Reading Homework

Dear Parents,

The children are bringing home simple stories to read for homework
tonight. Please be sure that they track each word as they read.
This will prevent them from adding extra words or omitting words.
They are excited about reading here at school!

Please be sure to return the books in your child's red folder
tomorrow so that other children can have a chance to read them.
Also, be sure to sign the reading log in the back of the red folder
so I know that your child read to you.

Just a reminder ... Father Ken would like us to wear RED uniform
shirts on Friday to celebrate the Exaltation of the Cross.

Updated Information on School Reach Call 8/21/2014

Dear Parents,

Earlier this evening we sent a School Reach call to our families regarding an
incident that we believed to have been a tire slashing on the parking lot across
from the gym.

I am happy to announce that it was determined not to be vandalism. We were informed
after the call went out that it was simply a flat tire that had been badly damaged.

We apologize for any undue concern that this created. We want our families to
realize that we care passionately about the safety of our students and staff and we
did not intend to cause undue alarm.

Assessment Information

Dear Parents,

I just want to clarify for our newer families, and for anyone else who has
questions, what OLMC Assessments are all about, because I know it can be confusing!

Our Catholic tuition is considerably lower than our non-Catholic tuition – nearly
$2,000 a year – and it is also one of the lowest tuitions in the entire Diocese of
Belleville. There are two reasons this is possible:

First, and foremost, is the donation the church gives towards the education of each
Catholic child – approximately $1,600 per year, per child. This is made possible
through the donations of our parishioners. Support of the church equals support of
the school. This is why we ask our parents to be active supporters of the church
as well as the school.

Secondly, is the donation of $850 per family from the OLMC School Committee's
fundraisers. The School Committee gives $150,000 annually to the school to offset
tuition. The committee raises this money through a few principle fundraisers, such
as Bingo, Mardi Gras, and Auction. Our Catholic families are required to
participate in one of these fundraisers in order to ensure the success of the
committee. It is a whole group effort in which we all must be vested.
Fundraising activities generally require approximately 24 hours of work per family
throughout the year. These profitable activities are a great way for school parents
to get to know one another as they work together for the greater good of our
school.

Finally, a family may opt not to work an OLMC Assessment and instead pay an
equivalent Assessment Fee of $850.00 per family. Non-Catholic school families do
not receive a parish subsidy, and therefore are exempt from Assessment obligations
– although we absolutely welcome them to join in, if they are so obliged :)

I hope this helps to clarify things for everyone. Thanks for all you do to make our
school such a wonderful place for our children.
